The Walking Trade Rooftop Farming Guide

Patch v1.2.0, called Rooftop Farming, arrived on Sep. 25, 2026. Its notes say the broken warehouse ladder can now be repaired through Build Mode, giving survivors a way onto the roof.

The same update confirms up to three rooftop farming plots. Farming actions and farming-related recipes are tied to the Homesteading skill, so the roof is a progression project rather than an immediate free resource.

The patch also says farming upgrades require supplied materials. That means plot construction and improvements should be planned alongside shop storage, trading stock and defense materials.

Progress until the Junkyard is available. The official update notes specifically identify the Junkyard as the source of items used to repair the warehouse ladder.

Collect the repair materials, open Build Mode and repair the broken ladder. The exact item names and quantities were not documented in the public notes used here, so check the in-game repair panel.

Once access is repaired, inspect the roof before committing materials. Confirm where the three supported plots can be built and whether storage or defense changes are needed to make the route safe.

Open Build Mode on the roof and start with one plot. This lets you learn the local workflow and preserve enough materials for defense or trade if the project stalls.
